image On Sunday morning, April 6, 1862, roughly 100,000 troops clashed in the fields and woods near Pittsburgh Landing in the first major battle in the American Civil War's western theater. Two days later, U.S. Grant blunts the Confederate attack, pushing the Southerners back to their base.

Today, on 4,000 acres overlooking the Tennessee River, America’s best preserved battlefield features 151 monuments, 217 cannon and over 450 historic tablets.

Shiloh gave General U.S. Grant his sternest test, and witnessed the death of General Albert Sidney Johnston, the highest ranking American ever killed in combat.

A ten-mile self-guided driving tour begins at the Visitors Center, which features a 25-minute orientation film. During the summer, Park Rangers present interpretive programs throughout the day.

Directions: The battlefield is located in Hardin County, TN, ten miles southwest of Savannah on Highway 22. From Interstate 40, take highway 22 South at Exit 108. Form Corinth, Mississippi, take Highway 22 North.
