Wind, Grass and Chrome on
Pickwick
The Tennessee West Division of Fishers of Men National
Tournament Trail kicked off its 6th season on beautiful
Pickwick Lake on March 11. The tournament was preceded with
a meeting which was hosted by First Baptist Church of Counce,
Tennessee. Hospitality and good food is no stranger to this
area of Tennessee . Good fishing, fun, food, and fellowship
were on the menu, but the only thing lacking was the good
fishing.
Stormy skies gave way to 20-25 mile per hour winds with
mostly sunny skies as 64 teams took off at first light. A
total of $7000 will be awarded by days end to the teams who
can make the most of what turned out to be a slow day of
fishing. Also, all those Triton Gold members were anxiously
awaiting their opportunity to weigh their catch in hopes of
landing the $1000 in Triton Gold Bonus money.
An old saying in team tournament fishing goes like this,
“two hooks in the water are better than one.” Not so for
Terry Harris of Bartlett , Tennessee . Fishing solo, Terry
used a chrome/blue back Rattle Trap over submerged weed beds
to catch his limit of largemouth bass that weighed in at
12.90 pounds. Mr. Harris is not a stranger to this trail,
but this is his first time to take an early lead in the
point's race. If he can hang on to this position, he will be
awarded a cash bonus for winning the point's race as well as
an automatic berth into the prestigious National
Championship where a fully rigged Triton/Mercury combo will
be awarded to the winner.
On any given day there can be several different patterns on
a body of water. Considering that only three limits of fish
were caught, patterns were scarce, but the top three teams
were all in agreement on the pattern. Trailing by less than
one pound, Tom and Troy Bradford of Springville, Tennessee
went on to take second place with 11.83 pounds. Jeff Hardy
and Kenny Louden claimed third place with their 11.05 pound
sack. Tim Cosby and Melvin McClarin weighed in a 6.70
largemouth which earned them big fish honors.
Next stop is at Paris Landing State Park on April 8, 2006.
